Camera Work- This establishing shot works well for a thriller as it gives an idea of where they are but not an exact location. A lot of the camera movement is tracking and following the characters as they continue with their mission. This makes the scene feel more intense as the audience can follow what goes on better.
Mise En Scene- The masks are shown as important from the first few shots as the camera zooms in on it. They cover the real identity of the people making the audience unaware of who they are, so later in the film, the antagonists are unknown, creating a sense of mystery. The lighting in most of the shots is low key making the whole thing more mysterious.
Editing- it is cross cut editing, showing how the whole plan is coming together so you know what each of the characters know. As the robbery gets further in and the pace becomes faster the number of cuts gets higher to help give more pace to the clip.
Sound- The quiet and lack of sound at the very start works well as it creates a shock when suddenly glass smashes as the audience isn’t expecting it. The Dialogue mentions ‘the joker’ in both groups of conversation making the name stand out so the audience knows it will be important later in the film. The non-diegetic sound track works well with the clip creating tension and adrenaline as it slowly builds up and goes from slow eerie sounds to a more dramatic soundtrack along side the clip as it gets more action and faster paced. The sound has been panned, especially when they go down the zip wire, giving the audience more of an involvement in the film, as if they were there.

Camera Work- a tracking shot is use to begin, it shows viewer what the character can see. There is also a reveal when the camera tilts up to show the girls face, this works well in a thriller as it reveals the character at a slow pace, it also means that the audience doesn’t know who the protagonist and the antagonist are, as neither of the teams are shown to be the good or bad. There are a lot of big close ups and close ups as well as a mix of long shots, to show what is going on but in a confusing manor. The variety in angles again shows the confusion and fast pace of the scene.
Mise En Scene- There is a major lack of lighting to give the eerie feel, side lighting is mainly used for this effect and creates shadows to give the darkness and mystery to the opening. All of the characters clothes are dark and black, merging with the night so that it is more difficult to follow fast movements
Editing- The pace of the shots speeds up with the amount of cuts, wich become quicker during the chase and fighting clips the sound also backs this up.
Sound- The non diegetic soundtrack helps with the pace and mood of the scene. When the scene is slow, the music is quiet and eerie whereas when the scene gathers speed the music becomes more active and violent. Foley effects are used throughout the opening to add adrenaline to the clip, such as footsteps, police radios and fast movement. This adds to the speed of the movement and because the sound effects of footsteps and gun clicks are made fairly loud they add tention and suspense as the audience feel the adrenaline.
Knowing –
Camera Work- The slow track out at the start means you don’t automatically know where you are creating a sense of mystery. The establishing shot of the school is good because it makes you question what is wrong. As the girl is writing there is a tilt up as a close up, this allows you to see the entire page and the a slow tilt to the girls body language creating suspense, but supplying important information that will be referred to later in the film.
Mise En Scene- The setting, a school playground , one of the least scary, tense places, works well to show the total contrast with the young girl- a mysterious quiet and scared looking young girl, in the middle of a loud happy safe school. I think this makes a good effect.
Editing- The way that the first few shot are all of the same girl in the same position but from different angles works well as they are all sewn together and show her surroundings. They are all fairly slow paced cuts, but as the writing starts to get faster and faster, the clips become slightly shorter.
Sound- The very beginning starts with voices whispering loudly, as if they were in your head. However you can’t hear what they’re saying, this makes it much more unusual and you try to work out what's going on. Later on, slow eerie violin music starts, keeping the tension in the clip. –Foley sounds are used for a ticking clock in the background, which again keeps the tension and the pace, keeping the audience attentive. –Pencil noises are also added quite loudly, drawing attention to the scribbled numbers and signifying something important will come of this.
Camera Work- All the shots are either big close ups or extreme close ups, this is good for a thriller as it makes the audience unaware of many things, and ask questions. Also because you cant see what is going on very well it makes everything more mysterious
Also, in the first shot a shallow depth of field is used so the focus is on the pages of the book and you can’t see what or who is in the background.
Mise En Scene- The use of faded colour is used well to show how something may be old and used. Also the lighting creates a lot of shadows creating mystery. Also the way it shows sewing through part of the opening on more than one occasion makes the audience think it is important and related to the plot.
Editing- each clip flicks (straight cut) or fades to black or between the next shot at a fast pace, making the viewer concentrate on what's going on and drawing them in. they all seem to be related due to the way the are all presented; quick flashes of clips and no real narrative to have begun. Creating mystery and rising questions.
Sound- The non diegetic soundtrack fitted with the clips that were flicking and flashing on the screen, as if the track was unaware of what was going on. It has a mysterious feel to it combined with strange noises to make the whole clip appear merged and strange.
