process part 1

Travelling

Due to our core location being very ‘out of the way’ we had some trouble getting there. There were no direct trains to the location so we had to work out a route through cars and busses, this was difficult because we all had large amount of equipment, props, etc.

The trains to the area also were very expensive so we did not have the funds for two days of travelling there and back they also were 1 hour long travel so it would have taken a long time.

Because Sayful and Louise lived in burgess hill they both found a means of travel by car (Sayful’s Brother). Another issue was the Actors we had in mind for the scenes, due to travel expenses they could not come so we had only 1of 5 actors available, as he was the only one who lived in Burgess Hill.

Jaz on the other hand had to find her own way there as she lived a greater distance from us and the location (Fraser’s House). So she had to get the train to three bridges and the get a bus to East Grinstead followed by another 20min walk to the location, she did find this difficult as she had heavy lighting equipment.

Actual filming

First thing we did was establish the 180 degree rule and what angle we would film from. We then worked out where the props were going to be set and the setting it’s self as we had to change the furniture around. We moved a plant pot from the right of the subject to the left so it was in more of the shot to make the subject look more innocent, wealthy and also to give a feeling of a bright summers day.

An accident which worked in our favour with the lighting was, we felt it was to powerful and bright we could not aim it directly on the subject so we pointed them to the ceiling which was white, thus meaning the light bounced off and dispersed into the location making the whole room brighter, this made it look like a sunny day (but it was a horrible murky day), it made the quality of the filming a lot more crystal, also it looked ambient so it didn’t look fake.

This was the powerful light we used, as you can see its aimed at the ceiling.

Another idea we put into practice after discussion was making one of the lights an actual prop in the scene, because we wanted a back lighting and side lighting we couldn’t hide them from the shots so we incorporated them into the shot.

As you can see in this image the fill light in the background is a prop yet it also is there to help with the lighting,

Costume wise and props for the Mise en scene, we had a variety of clothes to try out for the characters as we had no actors we were unprepared so we used what Fraser had available and we became the actors. We had a many types of the props like the gun and mask just in case we broke anything.

The whole filming in this one location took us roughly 5 hours just for the one area, this is because we took every scene in that location in 4 different camera angles each with extra around.
